It snowed in New York?

December 29, 2010 Leave a comment

The city dropped the ball- people in Brooklyn in particular and Staten Island (Staten Island shouldn’t complain- after Jersey Shore they should be glad we didn’t use the island as a snow dump) are in distress.

As you may or may not know I have access to some information about the city’s mood because of my job, and well, those boroughs are well, not happy. Can’t blame them, for whatever reason the response was much less effective than previous times. Of course I suck because I always evaluate all angles, I don’t go across the board and say one thing is right or wrong- and so being big on personal responsibility I do consider the fact that it’s just freaking snow, it can be shoveled, and it does melt- but then you have to be sympathetic to the elderly who depend not only on city services to control the effects of inclement weather- but also the highly ineffective and opportunistic MTA who makes money off of New Yorkers providing transportation as a private company, but seemingly invests absolutely no money of their ever inadequate budget on actual contingency- like having a snow plow or even a budget to hire private contractors if needed- to clear their own routes- god forbid. No, they put the onus on the city, along with charging city employees nearly the entire amount of their fare fees (millions of dollars in revenue). but before I go off on a rant- you have to be sympathetic to the elderly and the infirmed. Their main concern is getting to their health care appointments that sometimes are life dependent, and of course- emergency services being able to reach them. They are in effect, trapped in their homes. In a catastrophe, these are members of the population that are inevitable losses. People who get left behind. They cannot travel, much less, can they run for their lives. Now, this shouldn’t have been a catastrophic event, and this is everyone’s point, because for many people, the conditions were nearly as such.

The Mayor has owned up to the fact that the response was less than effective, and here is where the Mayor, which I support, personally lacks a bit of what New York needs right now.

People want blood. He speaks about accountability, and his business sense though admirable and fiscally effective- is not the Human Resources Politically Correct kind of language people want and need to hear right now. They need to hear “Heads are going to roll”. They need, and want to hear, that the man in charge shares their outrage and that the suffering of the people, is as the suffering of his own children, and that people who are in charge of certain things, will soon feel his wrath on the people’s behalf.

I know, it sounds arcane, but what can I tell you, its the pulse of the people, and although the minority of new Yorkers make the majority of the money and buy the New York Times, most people read the Post and the Daily News, which is dumbed down to a 3rd grade reading level. Needless to say most of them, won’t be reading this blog.

You cannot be a leader of the people, and expect the people to behave as you expect them or want them to- and if you ignore how they behave and pretend it does not exist- you lose public confidence (the equivalent of being overthrown in ancient times). As a leader of the people you have to do what you think is best, but you must speak the language of the people. I’m not running for Prime Minister in Japan without gettin’ my karaoke on.

Anyway…

It’s gray slush time here in New York.

Predictions;

If the weather improves, the snow will melt, if it melts too fast, though no one is saying anything right now, the sewers will overflow- the infrastructure, as the operation structure obviously, is lacking. There will be flooding. Transit will be delayed and cancelled. Elderly and infirmed will be stuck again. The media will swarm, as usual, helping nothing, and creating a public uproar that does no more than waste effort and time.

I… will say, I told you so.

Happy New Year everyone.

Thanks to all who seemed to have found my humble blog of rants… I’m sorry I haven’t been around for a minute, I’ve been working on other projects. I posted a little thing on the Damian Dezign blog about this. You might want to take a look at my other pages, so maybe you won’t consider me the irate unstable fool I come off as here on The O.O.

There are links somewhere on here.

Funny enough, looking at my stats, the most valuable of my few blogs in my opinion is The New Good, because it literally serves the cause of self improvement. it’s there to help people, and of course to begin the ground swell that leads to my cult-like world domination, but really- just to help people… yet it receives no hits whatsoever.  If it doesn’t help people, I know it would at least entertain, yet nada. Take a look there if you don’t mind- who knows, you might benefit from some New Good.

Self promotion aside, let me just ask- why has our Prez got no balls? The rich got richer with his spineless concession on the tax thing. Either he has no balls, or they’ve got him by his balls. And by “them” of course I mean the corporations and conglomerates above them that make the payoffs to the lobby and pull the strings on government. the entities that see the free citizens of the world as their sheep, and not human beings at all. Expendable, in the name of profit.

Have I not been clear on these matters?

K, gotta get my head back in the Graffitti Park game… Oh, you don’t know what that is? Click the link! Find out!

Weekend Movie Reviews

127 Hours

Well I’d rather cut my arm off rather than tell anyone where I’m going. If you see this movie, you’ll see, you’ll probably have to.

The spin is- Appreciate your life and your loved ones and bla bla bla. The undeniable moral of the story is (if you don’t get sucked into the media “think as we tell you to think” marketing campaign), if you’re a dick, you’ll find your way to punishing yourself for it. Psychologically (my favorite thing about humanity), this is true for everyone. They want you to come away from this with such admiration for the guy’s resolve and dedication to staying alive- but I say unto you, isn’t it obvious that he wouldn’t be in that situation had he not been a dick?

So, come away with it having the knowledge that if you want to be a dick, at least be careful about it because you may end up stuck in a crevice and have to cut your own arm off to survive. A cell phone, a GPS or Satellite phone, something many outdoorsmen carry in their packs, shit, a senior citizens health alert or just letting your Onstar know that you’ll be hiking in the outback and if you don’t report back in such and such time- bingo, no self amputations necessary.

“A Triumphant true Story”… of a dick, and his having to cut his own arm off to have to realize it.

Otherwise, as a movie it’s a good piece of work.

The Messenger

By contrast, these men are not dicks. They, the subjects, are heroes. Did this movie win awards? I don’t know. I think it did and it should have. I remember wanting to see it when it was in theatres, but like so many movies, for so many reasons, I didn’t. Well it came to cable this week and I made it a point to catch it. It’s powerful and it brings into the experience of our troops in both a unique and universal way.

As someone who missed many an opportunity to serve in the armed forces, some by choice others by negligence, and the first time, by strong physical influence of a friend who put me up against a wall, lifted me off the ground by my shirt and said he’d kill me if I followed in his footsteps, just after he came back from Paris Island-  I will always live with the regret and underlying feeling that I not only want to do something… as well as that primal urge to kill something we all have (don’t lie), and of course, an unwavering respect for those who take up the call to duty whether by choice or necessity.

Thats me. I am a pig. And I acknowledge that I owe my right and privilege to be a pig in this country to those men and women who put their lives on the line, and lets be clear, the line they put their lives on is the first line, the line on the edge of what is, and makes possible, everything that we call life and society that can exist behind that line they stand on. Without them standing there, going where they are unjustifiably sent, surviving it the best way they can and dieing… we cannot have what we have, because we would be overrun and slaughtered like the fat, lazy, uneducated and unconscionable Americans we have settled into being. Again, that’s me and how I feel. You may be more or less by margins I can only imagine- and I feel I owe so much more, but at least, I owe those brave soldiers the respect of sitting down and taking in a work like this so to better understand their experience. In the end it’s just about all they want, and all they can have of us, the people behind the lines who enjoy the fruits of their sacrifice.

You, whoever you are, however good you have it or however hard, should at least, sit down and try to understand  too. At least.

It’s a deeply compelling movie and the acting is captivating. The actors themselves are among the very best in their craft and a complete pleasure to watch.

And they won’t.

Ever.

Until the explosion serves the purposes of the government.

No?

These didn’t go off… how again?

Tips received about their delivery. Voila! Good informants? There is no such thing. Governments hold the purse strings, and approve/ sanction any terrorist explosions that would really effect modern society. Rural society? Who cares- right? They feel the same way.

These reports are just fodder for the fear machine.

Keep them afraid, show them there is a threat- they’ll stay tuned in like the movie of the week.

Give me a break.

Vanity Fair,
Murder Trial of Saudi Prince Reflects Overseas Epidemic of Servant Abuse

It’s a damn shame when those who have it all can’t get it right. I guess having it all, even being royalty isn’t a pass for doing whatever you want and getting away with it. Who ever you are, however much you have in this world, whether inherited or earned, there will always be a need for something more apparently- and in this case, it’s a good Cleaner!

Opportunity Knocks!

How you can murder a servant these days and allow yourself to be caught is beyond me! What the prince obviously needed was someone he could call in such emergencies. Someone who can carefully take the situation in hand, a fixer of sorts, a quicker picker upper- part butcher, part clean freak. Not security, but certainly could be part of it.

What? Did you think this was going to be a diatribe on morality and the effects of excess on human beings? Please. What good would that be? In the article above, it’s already mentioned how no one really talks about stuff like this. And of course they don’t, because if you did, the powers that be would call a Cleaner on you- if you’re lucky. If they’re exceptionally cruel, they would simply destroy your life and leave you breathing in a more pathetic state than you already live in. One likely so much less elegant than they can afford. And if you are one of them, you need each other- so of course you still wouldn’t talk about it. Except to maybe exchange a discreet story here and there about the last time you beat a servant to death, and of course, the contact number for the Cleaner.

Why this prince didn’t make use of his number is still a mystery- because for certain, the service must exist. You don’t have old money without simple solutions to problems like this popping up at some time in history. Governments use services such as these, and where do you think they learned it from?

Do you actually believe this is the first servant to be murdered by a super wealthy person?

You’d be an idiot to believe that.

It’s not, but maybe this prince went too far and a problem that money can easily fix, as money does, perhaps was allowed to be discovered by the authorities. Allowed, as money will do, when authorities serve a purpose.

It’s the same as when the middle class American Mom and Dad say “let them keep him overnight to teach him a lesson” of the local police when their kid is picked up doing something stupid.

Except Mom & Dad’s world is a tiny one, and a royal family’s world is larger, so a murder trial might serve their purposes better than the local precinct, and a sentence of “up to twenty years (read the fine print on that one)” would do more to scare the royal prince straight than a laughable overnight stay in a jail he could buy with his allowance money.

I promise you, as with Osama Bin Laden- when they want the prince to roam free, he will. For the record he may appear to serve the time- but don’t be surprised if he’s released in twenty years with a Saint Tropez tan and is greeted by his wives, none of them married to him more than 19 years, and his children, all under the age of 18.

Or… we just don’t hear about this little blurb in the media again, and as true Americans, we forget.

So again- if you can, look a little deeper, and you might be truly fascinated at the soap opera-ish tale surrounding the facts of the actual story most of us will never know and live to tell. Because the truth is, the super wealthy, as all of the Saudi royal families are- can do whatever they fucking want to do, and killing a servant- is the least of it.

Right Princess Diana?

You know what I think?

October 26, 2010 Leave a comment

Neither do I. I have no distinct opinion that registers right now. There is election madness going on, so what? Nothing is going to change because it’s the system thats fucked.

The hiccup girl is up for murder- adn well, I can’t help but notice the company she was keeping, and hearing the hypocritical echo’s of a certain face crying about “injustice” and the misuse of the N-word… Can we agree there is a correct use if you confirm there is a mis use? It’s her own fault, who cares?

The poor innocent blonde who’s husband was killed by Mexican “pirates”… In this day and age if someone I love is killed by Pirates, do you think I am going on TV to bring attention to it? It’s just embarrassing. Shiver mi timbers matey.

Then to hear her clearly say how they knew there was violence and crime in the area… but they went anyway??? Smacks of white entitlement not working out the way you hoped. Is anyone going to cry for me if I go somewhere near crime and violence and my wife ends up getting killed as a result? They cant find the body of this guy, if they could’t find my wife’s body, I’d be a suspect, not a blonde little pariah looking all sad and woe-is-me on TV. Again, it’s their own fault, may he rest in peace but buddy, you asked for it. Mexico has problems, and until it becomes a problem where the American government can’t profit in some way- it’s Mexico’s problem. You’re an idiot if you go and get in the way.

As the story began I could smell the word “god” coming, and yes, I should have put money on it because she sure as hell said it. But honey, if god had anything to do with it so much else would have happened other than what did. Oh but yeah, god is awesome in that way isn’t he? The fools errand, I mean act of faith is, believing, despite the acts of cruel indifference.

Am I wrong? To who? Someone who prefers a watered down denial ridden version of the truth? Yeah, I bet I am.

What else?

Taylor Swift… Can we find a sex tape with a black athlete already please?
