It snowed in New York?

December 29, 2010 Leave a comment

The city dropped the ball- people in Brooklyn in particular and Staten Island (Staten Island shouldn’t complain- after Jersey Shore they should be glad we didn’t use the island as a snow dump) are in distress.

As you may or may not know I have access to some information about the city’s mood because of my job, and well, those boroughs are well, not happy. Can’t blame them, for whatever reason the response was much less effective than previous times. Of course I suck because I always evaluate all angles, I don’t go across the board and say one thing is right or wrong- and so being big on personal responsibility I do consider the fact that it’s just freaking snow, it can be shoveled, and it does melt- but then you have to be sympathetic to the elderly who depend not only on city services to control the effects of inclement weather- but also the highly ineffective and opportunistic MTA who makes money off of New Yorkers providing transportation as a private company, but seemingly invests absolutely no money of their ever inadequate budget on actual contingency- like having a snow plow or even a budget to hire private contractors if needed- to clear their own routes- god forbid. No, they put the onus on the city, along with charging city employees nearly the entire amount of their fare fees (millions of dollars in revenue). but before I go off on a rant- you have to be sympathetic to the elderly and the infirmed. Their main concern is getting to their health care appointments that sometimes are life dependent, and of course- emergency services being able to reach them. They are in effect, trapped in their homes. In a catastrophe, these are members of the population that are inevitable losses. People who get left behind. They cannot travel, much less, can they run for their lives. Now, this shouldn’t have been a catastrophic event, and this is everyone’s point, because for many people, the conditions were nearly as such.

The Mayor has owned up to the fact that the response was less than effective, and here is where the Mayor, which I support, personally lacks a bit of what New York needs right now.

People want blood. He speaks about accountability, and his business sense though admirable and fiscally effective- is not the Human Resources Politically Correct kind of language people want and need to hear right now. They need to hear “Heads are going to roll”. They need, and want to hear, that the man in charge shares their outrage and that the suffering of the people, is as the suffering of his own children, and that people who are in charge of certain things, will soon feel his wrath on the people’s behalf.

I know, it sounds arcane, but what can I tell you, its the pulse of the people, and although the minority of new Yorkers make the majority of the money and buy the New York Times, most people read the Post and the Daily News, which is dumbed down to a 3rd grade reading level. Needless to say most of them, won’t be reading this blog.

You cannot be a leader of the people, and expect the people to behave as you expect them or want them to- and if you ignore how they behave and pretend it does not exist- you lose public confidence (the equivalent of being overthrown in ancient times). As a leader of the people you have to do what you think is best, but you must speak the language of the people. I’m not running for Prime Minister in Japan without gettin’ my karaoke on.

Anyway…

It’s gray slush time here in New York.

Predictions;

If the weather improves, the snow will melt, if it melts too fast, though no one is saying anything right now, the sewers will overflow- the infrastructure, as the operation structure obviously, is lacking. There will be flooding. Transit will be delayed and cancelled. Elderly and infirmed will be stuck again. The media will swarm, as usual, helping nothing, and creating a public uproar that does no more than waste effort and time.

I… will say, I told you so.

Happy New Year everyone.

City Planning- your guide to New York, and the apocalypse

December 16, 2010 Leave a comment

Sorry Nation (to borrow a term from Colbert), but today’s, or rather, this weeks Opinion is just about NYC.

I’m crammed in a train today, as most days, and I look out of the train’s window, across to the opposite platform at Times Square station, and I wonder- Did anyone plan on this city being so overcrowded?

Redundant question- I know. The very term overcrowded denotes there could be no planning. No one plans for OVER-crowding. They may plan for crowds, but not an overage. Overage is what happens in the absence of planning, ok, ok.

So in this millisecond my thoughts move to how ripe this city is for any kind of terrorist attack or natural disaster that would have the highest death toll ever- and from there of course to my over repetitious thought of this being the very case against the free acts of terrorist cells- and how they’re likely controlled by some government source that only releases the hounds so to speak, when the corporate bosses that hold their leashes say it would be conducive to revenue streams.

All of which always ends in the thought “whaaaaaat the fruck ever” I have to get to work so who cares?

Bottom line is, no one planned for this, and people, the ants, or sheep that we are- just wiggle around in the pens made for us, not using any sort of real intelligence to make a better life, or a better world for ourselves* (note- remind me to opine on the difference between the European public, and the American public when it comes to asserting control over their destinies vs. the political regime’s looking to profit from their lives, like a ranch owner would his cattle).

So then I say to myself, well of course- what we need is a reduction in head count here, so the city can be a little more livable. the buildings are built upwards, not outwards, and there is no more ground level space to move around in anymore. People are going to start falling off the platforms in the transit system.

Solution; consolidate housing.

You can’t really consolidate work space- I mean, you can, but I’ll get to that next.

Consolidation of housing means you take the space of two apartments- and make it one.

Yes, there will never be a cessation of greed, so there will never be a landlord, landowner, who in their philanthropic best, will concede to- not losing money- but making less than the overbloated mess of money they make now- and have to then cut back on the equally bloated mess of a privileged life they likely lead. No, that’s not going to happen- but still- this needs to be done- so of course, then the two 2 million dollar spaces for example, will not cost 2.5 million when consolidated, but instead cost 4 million for the one space it then would be- but you tell me- could you have afforded it at 2 million anyway- what do you care? Thats one less multi millionaire taking up space in New York City.

That’s a good thing.

Instantly (well, instantly after the buzzards are done ravaging the opportunity for construction of these changes) you have half the rich people you had before, living in New York.

I know, this doesn’t make my train any less crowded by much- but it helps. But you have to remember- a one room studio in New York City proper- the island of Manhattan where greed is at it’s worst- costs about $1 million.

Co-ops, average about the same. Sure you can find some pushing up against old New York (poor neighborhoods- i.e. gentrification) for less, but less I would guess to say is maybe a little under half a million dollars, and the maintenance you would pay is about as much as rent up to 10 miles outside the City, in the pre-burbs (my term). The area before Long Island that is the legitimate suburbia, but outside “The City” of New York, Manhattan Island.

We’re talking 2-6 miles inland of Brooklyn and Queens. The immediate surrounding areas in these Boroughs have been swallowed up by gentrification already- the rents and prices of property are in the outlandish bracket- well, outlandish unless you inherited money or were put through school by your parents AND make a little more than a livable wage. Staten Island and the Bronx are anomalies.

Staten Island should be sold to New Jersey because it’s inhabitants are very strange, if not just as bad as any ghetto peeps, excuse the colloquialisms. The Bronx, has to wait for the island of Manhattan to be completely consumed by gentrification, don’t worry, they’re working on it- they’re up to the mid-100’s streets now. It used to be all Caucasians got off the train at 86th street, but now they stay on a couple more stops.  But the strange thing about the Bronx is that it does have it’s nice areas, but you have to go through the ghetto to get there. As opposed to Brooklyn and Queens where gentrification makes it the other way around.

So anyway, there would be less rich people, and less middle income people, and who cares about low income people like me, we couldn’t afford it anyway, so we keep our commute, only with less shoulders to rub up against on the way in and out.

Now like I said before- the rich don’t all take the train or bus, they drive and take cabs- hello? And Hello? Less cars, less cabs, less traffic, less gridlock, less pollution.

For the landlord greed mongers- less expense. How? Well less people means less water used, reduction in water bills per property- you greedy bastards.

For the city, a reduction in the same, and thus an extension on the already dilapidated infrastructure’s expiration date. More time to reinforce that shyit, or do you not mind the occasional steam pipe burst that takes out an entire city block and cuts tax revenue by repair cost and lost income to the merchants on that block? it happened not too long ago.

Not to mention the lawsuits that come from such catastrophes.

Well, long story short- there are a lot of benefits to this kind of change, I won’t get too much more into it because frankly, who am I in the here and now? Sure, we’ll pack away a mental note for when I can do something about it- but right now I’m too busy with Graffitti Park and other aspects of life to give this more thought than is allowed on a train ride- and then- only because I have to ride a cattle car passing for a passenger train to work.

Most days I just think about how much I wish the world would end so I could never have to go into the subways again, and the woman pressed up against me with the perfect skin and expensive lifestyle would cling to me for survival instead of stand on the other side of the class divide that can be infinitely wide, even while millimeters apart.

Not that I wouldn’t shake her off for holding me back mind you.

And they won’t.

Ever.

Until the explosion serves the purposes of the government.

No?

These didn’t go off… how again?

Tips received about their delivery. Voila! Good informants? There is no such thing. Governments hold the purse strings, and approve/ sanction any terrorist explosions that would really effect modern society. Rural society? Who cares- right? They feel the same way.

These reports are just fodder for the fear machine.

Keep them afraid, show them there is a threat- they’ll stay tuned in like the movie of the week.

Give me a break.

Voting; An exercise in Stupid.

The announcement says “this train is out of service” – I don’t get on and take a seat expecting to get anywhere.

The bike has two flat tires, I don’t get on and start peddling- expecting to get anywhere, without completely messing up the bike, and looking like a fool.

The machine has a sign on it that says “OUT OF ORDER” – I do not, put money in, expecting to get anything in return…

So why the F… am I going to vote?

The argument, because you can, and others can’t, is not enough justification for me to push smaller people out of the way when I’m getting on that train every day, so how is it enough justification to do something in support of a broken and corrupt system? Do you need three examples of that one as well?

America has no balls. Some time after World War II America became a mass of media zombie followers. If you can create a catchy media campaign, Americans will follow. After the supposed terrorist attack that brought down the World Trade Center on 9.11.2001 (I refuse to call it 9.11 unless I am OK with disrespecting the memory of those who died that day with the abbreviation all too commonly used by lazy Americans), if you provided the masses enough fear- they followed along as well- or rather- stood by and said nothing as you openly abused the power of the nation to rape an entire country of people to further capitalist needs of a too fat, too greedy country of again… zombies.

The reason I say this country has no balls anymore is because as much as we all KNOW the system is broken- no one – says “No”, like I am- and not putting their hand in the till in support of the exact machine that is broken.

NO ONE!

If they do- they’re not vocal enough, they’re just lazy and using this as an excuse.

With a population like this there is no possibility of revolutionary change- the only change that can fix something that’s damaged to this degree- and no I don’t mean armed or violent revolution- I mean rational dismantling of a system that has needed euthanizing for a long time.

It’s obvious to me- how is it not to you?

This high school drop out, GED sprinkled with a few college credits brown collar aspiring artist worker who has wasted his life chasing love and only a year ago began his journey towards true personal fulfillment can see the obviousness of the national situation- and you, all of you, over educated, over fed and over paid sloven Americans who swear you know so much- can’t! You just keep feeding the machine that the very candidates tell you is broken.

Hey, I’m a drug addict, give me money! No, I’m not a drug addict, but that statement is the equivalent. And you all go vote, you give the drug addict money.

I’ve voted, a long time ago, the first year that I could vote- I voted. But since, I’ve slowly learned, election after election- that no one’s vote makes a difference- when the system itself is broken.

As long as we keep feeding a broken machine, we will be willing participants in our our own victimization.

Does anyone else watch the news and feel misrepresented? Does anyone else watch the Daily Show and wonder how it is the majority population can have one opinion, and the representation seems clueless? That’s a corrupt broken machine.

No vote.

No participation in that.

No thank you.

So in the next two, four, eight years, when I watch the news, I CAN make a comment. I CAN complain, when you would think it would be voting that would give me the right- it’s the opposite that’s true. If you vote, sure, you can complain about your candidate- but that’s my point! I can complain about yours and theirs and theirs – ALL OF THEM! Because I am standing on my point on election day and saying IT”S FUTILE AND BROKEN!

A loud resounding “I TOLD YOU SO!”

Enough about that… I’m sure the response, if one at all, because dismissal is so much easier- right fatso? The response would be “so what would you do then?”

And if you read my sh*t, or know me at all, do you really think I don’t have an answer?

~ If you want true representation you have to take away the possibility of personal gain. Take away- as much as possible because greed is a humanism you can’t take away completely- the possibility of corruption. How do you do this? Among other ways, you must fist do the following…

1. Make service to your country a non-profit occupation. Take away the salary. Hand them an EBT card, and say with that- you pay your rent, you buy your food, you clothe yourself, you send your kids to school and if you need one and can’t use public transportation or we don’t have a government car pool you can jump on, then you can get an economical hybrid or full electric car as well. But you have to show justification.

That’s right- put the fuckers on welfare! Well, a comfortable welfare for sure- but one where they draw no salary from their service to the country. Sure, you can allot a small percentage towards retirement, that’s just fiscal responsibility, but that’s it.

You won’t see a blatantly corrupt- or future-corrupt candidate running for office because they get to keep campaign finance (referred to below*) funds or the residuals from holding those funds- or seeking election for personal gain anymore.

Yeah yeah yeah I know- the incentive for corruption may seem like it’s ignited with that kind of change- but it’s not. The representative is not barred from making his or her own money, but they are most certainly watched like a hawk.

By who?

2. The new DIVISION of (take your pick) an already established agency such as the FBI or NSA, or whoever- charged with the oversight of all elected official’s finances. It’s public service- so disclosure is already required.

*3. Dismantle the campaign finance system and institutionalize it. Contributions can be made in the name of a particular candidate- but they’re made to a government pool that ALL candidates draw from equally. So when company X decides to slather their candidate with green to try and overwhelm the constituency with media coverage and push out the competition by sheer force of consciousness- they know they are actually helping ALL the candidates to spend equally. “EQUAL REPRESENTATION” … SOUND FAMILAIR?????

What we have now is a bought system. If you have the money to buy the media and inform the public of your candidate, over any information a lesser funded candidate can do for themselves- you bought the vote. This would not be true if all Americans did do the work of informing themselves- but what was it I said before? People in this country are fat and lazy for the most part- they wait for everything to come to them, and only the minority actually go out and get informed on their own.

Make candidate information equal for all. Make it so that all can make an informed and equal decision. Take ads off TV, put them all in one place, either one channel and radio station anyone can tune into and listen to nothing but candidate information 24 hours a day, and/or bring the candidate information to the public in newsletter form.

What we have now is a god damned circus that makes us all look foolish. A desperate grab of media time that is both intrusive and indicative of the obvious corruption that’s sure to follow.

Finally, 4. Dismantle the party system. I don’t think I need to make this case- but seeing how I do think about this stuff productively and you don’t, obviously, maybe I do.

Either make it impossible for mega-parties to usurp the free public’s voice and needs of government (you’re on your own with regulation), or you dismantle the parties altogether. What do the candidates run on then? what do they run on now? THE F*cking ISSUES. The Platform. The principles, policies, and goals they all run on anyway- just no mega-party affiliation which contributes only to the problems we have now.

Special interests don’t have to come into your community to change your mind- they just have to make a major mega-party contribution and their influence has just usurped your voice. Case closed.

Something I daydream about all the time- is what would happen if no one voted in protest?

I wonder what would happen, what they would do? Would they listen? If we had a voice and actually used it, rather than following along doing what they tell us to do to keep their corrupt system in place- feeding them- those who are all up in it already. That’s the only group government really works for as things are now, and as you are voting to keep in place today for tomorrow. You are voting to keep the one’s making a living at it- making a living at making it NOT work for the people- employed. Yet if you did the job they’re doing, would you still have your job, or would that position even exist anymore? I think not.

WE, work for THEM, in that sense- and its the worst crying shame that this is what we have allowed this country to become.

There is nothing on my mind except…

That politics is and are, ridiculous.

American society has become ridiculous. If we’re not too fat, we’re too stupid. We’re definitely too complacent. We like to complain and complain but we don’t get up and do somehting about it. And those that do, like the Tea Party, bad example perhaps, but the only one available- are ridiculed for the beleifs they stand up for. Yes, they’re racist cheap white Amercians with nothing but more complaints and no soplutions, being used by a darker power hiding in the wings… but they are actually at least standing up for something and making some noise.

It’s all just perverse. I read abotu it all the time, all day, every day- a n opinion on politics is like the old sayiong about an opinion on anything- it’s like an asshole, everyone’s got one, and no matter what all it produces is shit.

MyfriendAngelo Rodriguez, may he rest in peace, used to say- “ok, stop talking shit, what are you gonna do about it?” after hearing you out intently and quietly. He left us too soon, and he was right.

The Establishment, is broken. Humanity is perverse, greedy, corrupt, self serving. Too self serving to ever expect that whatever group in power will serve all of the people. Humanity can’t help itself- it will always divide and ostracize. Humanity is insecure, so it has to single out “the other ones” and put them down to maintain its own self esteem. Use god, use money, use skin color, use sexuality- use whatever you like- there will always be something to use and there will always be a human being ready and willing to use it.

There is no governemnt on the face of the erth that seems to have gotten it right. That is, if “right:” means the prosperity of ALL of the people.

If “right” means squashing the less fortunate, and is a perception set forth by those more fortunate, those on the top, the rich, the equivalent of what monarchies were… then sure, it’s working fine. Exceptionally well in fact, since we have no revolutions anymore, since people don’t stand up together and force change anymore- when things are as wrong as they have ever been.

Since people, are easily fooled into thinking what doesnt work, like the present system, is somehow going to work, once the billionth band aid is tacked on.

Fuck Politics.

And I, will be no different than you, in respect of doing nothing about it- other than to do this nothing, honestly, and not pretend I don’t see what’s going on.

Until someone, or some group, stands up and begins the clean up, from the top to the bottom-andisbackedupbyan unyeilding force, loyal to no one and no thing more than the commitment to the cause- I’m going to keep this “opinion” and pont of view- what I think, is an honest one. And pray, in my own non-religious way, every day- that that if it allcant just come crashing down and level the playing field for the have – not’s, and a better society can be put together from the ashes, then that I should get my shot at whatever type of freedom I can attain to live the rest of my life like a big Fuck You to the system, and assure that any proginy I mistakenly and selfishly bring into this unfair society gets the opportunity only to do the same.

Have a Nice Day!

Well Thank You Dumb Ass

Months I’ve been waiting for the day to come where the controversy over the Mosque being built near the site of the former World Trade Center dies down (I’m not referring to it as Ground Zero- this isn’t a movie, this is real life and that sounds overly dramatic and downright stupid). But of course, when the day comes it’s not because people actually took a breath of sufficiently oxygenated air (no, I didn’t REALLY expect the general public to all of a sudden become mature and intelligent or respectful of others, turn the other cheek, live and let live or love each other as Jesus told them to, overnight or even over a millenia) and exhaled their demons like the release of smoke from the last cigarette you’ll ever have- promising you a better, healthier life, no… It’s because – some idiot is doing something just as ignorant and stupid as all those calling New York objecting to the Mosque to begin with.

This Jerk…

In his blissful ignorance, thinks that burning a bunch of Quran’s on September 11th is somehow a right thing, or a good thing to do.

Well sir, you are a Dick.

Officially, and on a grande scale- you are very much so, confirmed – a DICK.

Military officials have come forward saying that the action this fool is taking will endanger the lives of military personnel over seas. Still this fool does not retract his intent.

Why would he? This is his 15 minutes of fame. He’s not giving that up for anything or anyone. For many an ignoramus around the country, religious freaks, right-wing hate mongers, hell, even neo-nazis I’m sure- he has become a hero. he likes being a hero. he likes the spotlight. What religious leader doesn’t like the spotlight? I mean, let me rephrase that… What religious leader who passes around a collection plate- doesn’t like the spotlight?

Now, the military thing is a good point. But let’s look at a couple other things that I think the media, in its infinite wisdom to capitalize on riling up the Stupids of the nation- have missed- further proving that theyre not qualified to run news broadcasts…

1. It didn’t take this guy lighting a match to a book for him to boost recruitment for all fanatical muslim factions around the world- all it took was him announcing it. If they are already burning his image, along with our flag, half way around the world- I guarantee you that there are some poorly educated, hungry, very young men watching all of this and since they are young, hungry and poorly educated, they will be easy marks for the terrorists to recruit. A little food, a reason, a little anger, (both thanks to Mr. Dick up there), and now you have a jihadist that will be molded into a tool of destruction taking down both those of his or her own faith as well as those he is bent against.

So Thank You Mr. Idiot, for helping the radicals who want to harm us, to get more people on their side. YOU helped the terrorists- you mother f*cking dick.

2. If what this guy is proposing is putting U.S. lives in danger abroad- shouldnt it be considered an act of terrorism itself? Shouldnt it be considered a threat against national security? What if because of this people are not only killed but also kidnapped? Tortured? Held for ransom? I’m sure there is a lawyer out there somewhere who can make this case in this day and age (post Bush/Guantanamo Bay), and can set the standard by making an example of this fool. A nice hard time sentence of I dunno… let’s say 5+ years? That should let anyone who thinks of burning a book considered by any faith to be holy, in a public forum, that they’re gonna be screaming the name of their own god when the lights go out in their cell every night for 5+ years if they actually do it.

3. In a sort fo 1&2 combo- why isnt the government stepping in to seize this opportunity for peace? What I’m saying is, this is an opportunity for the United States Government to step in and prosecute this dick- and show the world that religious intolerance of any kind- is what will not be tolerated.

Akin to the point I’ve made about the Bush administration’s vengeful reaction to the acts of terrorism on 9.11.2001, where I asked what if we had turned the other cheek, sought out those responsible without invading anyone’s country or going to war on a large-scale (but of course I know-I know, the B.A. had other intentions and seized the moment- If* they didn’t manufacture the opportunity they needed all together)… But if we had turned the other cheek so to speak- the reaction of the world would have been the opposite of that which was recorded by history- anti-American sentiments all over the globe.

Put it this way… I’m a big guy, above average, and I can be pretty intimidating, never intentionally, my curse. Now, if someone came up to me and assaulted me out of no where on the street, and I took the hit, bloody lip, whatever- standers by would of course be shocked- omg all over the place, maybe someone would come up to me and grab my arm to help me up off one knee- right?

What if when I took the hit, I got up and pulled out a gun and shot the guy who punched me in the face- BAM!

Dead.

Now who’s the bad guy?

In the first instance, I have public sympathy, even help.

In the second- I have alienated everyone around me, scared the bejesus out of them, and now I am the public enemy. A killer, when for a split second I was the victim.

What I’m saying is, as I’ve said before- if 9.11 wasn’t about needing a reason to invade countries, then why didn’t we simply stay the victim and garner the worlds sympathy, and help?

This country could have done something so much stronger in respect to eliminating terrorism- and likely uniting the world against all radicalism had we just turned the other cheek. We could have more effectively sought out our enemies in a clandestine manner- as has been done so many other times. Instead, the immense posturing move of going to war only made the problem worse, enriched the terrorists cause and boosted their recruitment as well as swelled their number.

In this case why doesn’t the government step in and say No. No, the United States stands for freedom, but not the freedom to proliferate hate.

If they would do this- not only the muslim world would have more confidence in this institution, but maybe even 1 out of every 4 radicals will say to themselves “hold on before I put on that bomb vest there Mohammed, I know you worked real hard on it and all that, but if the U.S. is such an infidel and stuff… how is it they came down so hard on that guy who wanted to burn our holy book?” and when the radical then excuses himself to go to the restroom, he just doesn’t come back.

Instead he either goes back to his family, gets married, has kids and teaches them to be peaceful and loving by telling them this story, or he leaves and goes to the nearest U.S. Embassy and trades what he knows about his terrorist cell for citizenship.

A win-win scenario if you ask me- but one that is not possible if the government stands by and does nothing. One in four… I’m guesstimating, but I think it’s off the top accurate. If it is, that’s a worldwide 25% drop in their ranks. Sh*t just got easier.

For those who think it would be an infringement on freedoms of religion or speech- you are wrong. Because we were all taught that we have those freedoms- but it never gives us a right to go in a crowded theatre and yell FIRE! Remember?

What the Dick is doing by burning another culture’s holy book is just that- proliferating hate and causing a danger to the general public and/ or military personnel. This action, and even the threat of it is inciting anti-American sentiment and should be handled swiftly by law enforcement.

And that’s my Occasional Opinion.

Thanks Dick, for drawing attention away from the New York Cultural Center, but no thanks for being an all American asshole.

Burn yourself in effigy, makes a better statement and does us all a favor at the same time.

Two thoughts confrimed, and a cause…

1. When one’s material needs are taken care of (all of you making good money), there is very little that exists, to satiate your personal contentment- aka, to make you happy. This says a few things. It says that if  a human being has things taken care of for them (i.e Paris Hilton or anyone in a lucrative line of work or business), they have enough money to provide for their material needs- they, unless divinely gifted, become either a creature of excesses- or they become a philanthropist. Sometimes both in good measure, or one after the other.

In a way… it may be that human beings may NEED to be in a state where everything IS NOT taken care of- or basically- we get bored. The rest of my case is in the following…

2. The oft-not talked about dirty little secret of poverty- that the poor are poor because they’re stupid with their money. Spending it on excesses they would be better off abstaining from and reinvesting what money they do have on improving their situation. To this I can extend a small amount of understanding because in a world of excess, it is truly hard not to feel a drowning desperation when the world around you shows you the life you do not have that is better than yours, constantly, and consistently, without reminding you that to get there you have to bear down and sacrifice, hold out and abstain from indulgence whether it is for a temporary alleviation of your misery, or for a illusory taste of the good life.

In other words when you watch Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, there is no disclaimer warning you that the influence of seeing such lavish extravagance may lead you to despise the conditions you were born to so much that you could develop a materialist complex thinking that if you can buy everything you see advertised that you will be happy- or you will develop a substance dependence from occasionally over indulging in the “feeling” of having it all.

No, there’s no disclaimer telling you that to get there (if you actually want to be a person who can justify a quarter million dollar car), you have to turn away from indulgent expenditures and invest the money and time you have with sacrificial habits to be able to garner the results that would improve your situation to be able to afford those comforts everyone else around you has. Which isn’t easy advice to take… “hey, see this good shit? Well if you want it- don’t go out this weekend and have drinks with your friends, don’t go out on that date with that girl you met, don’t have fun that’s going to leave you closer to broke before payday… instead, when you’re off work, you should work. Study, make shit, so that one day down the line, maybe then you can have the latter problem of finding how to be happy because all your material needs are taken care of.”

Anyone else seeing the vicious cycle here?

Stay poor, because you don’t know any better, or get rich, and end up bored…

Which then brings us to the present day… where there ARE enough billionaires in this world (millionaires are old news), to quite possibly fix the worlds problems… Don’t you fucking tell me there isn’t enough money out there!

But they don’t.

I watch a video like this one, and so much goes through my mind… So much.

Towards the end when they show the size of the audience- watch it, it’s a STADIUM… of people she openly referred to as “having enough” and being a group she can appeal to for help- easily. In other words- they GOTS money, and they just don’t know what the fuck to do with it.

We live in a world where people shouldnt go hungry, but do. We live in a world where people shouldnt be uneducated, but god knows, they pick up the phone and call New York because they think they actually have an opinion that matters on the subject of the Mosque, and so they are uneducated and downright bigoted and stupid.

And we live in a world where Paris Hiltons aren’t strangled by their parents for simply being a waste of flesh. A mistake. An embarrassment. A disgrace. (I use the name because it’s the most common that comes to mind, but there are plenty of others) We live in a world where it’s allowed… to manufacture a vehicle, for sale to the public that can afford it… at the cost equivalent to the amount of money that can feed a small country, build a dozen schools, educate a hundreds if not millions of children to become teachers to work in those schools, or otherwise improve the world we live in… And despite living in a world where such a sad waste of money is offered to those who may have it to spend- we also live in the world where those people actually spend it. Not as a quick cheap thrill- like renting that Bugatti or Lamborghini for the day or the week- no. BUYING it. Saying goodbye to the large percentage of money that’s lost on resale value at the very moment it’s driven off the lot.

And if it takes $13 a month to send a young chinese girl to school, and a donation of 10k+ to change not only her world but the world of her entire family… how is it not criminal to buy a $250,000 car, a 4 million dollar wedding, a yacht, diamond rings, I could go on.

I’m not saying one can’t have these things if they must- but I am saying that it’s disgusting to see those that indulge, and haven’t done enough to help the world they live in.

I am saying I wish I lived in a world where such a car can be built, and maybe even manufactured in limited supply, but prohibited from mass production or permanent purchase simply because of the sheer disgusting human shallowness it would exhibit- and we should be above it. Because of the horrible things it would say about the human condition. And the proceeds resulting from the lease or rental of such vehicles produced in limited supply, should be severely taxed leaving only moderate profits for those producing them, and the taxes put directly and unconditionally towards community renewal, urban development and education.

This is the point where I want to stop writing, for the futility of it all.
